Are you ready to hire help?

A business consultant or coach - can move your business forward

You are a food business of one or maybe with only a few employees. You are doing the things, making the lists, churning out eats, taking the orders, pricing, wrapping, delivering, making your doughs, decorating, working the booths, marketing, photographing, email responding, and hopefully squeezing in your personal hygiene, dinner with friends, and laundry in between the long list of things you need to do for your business.

It’s a fucking lot.

You started this business with an idea and look at how far you’ve come. You’re kicking ass, but maybe you’ve reached a point of overwhelm and aren’t sure how to proceed.

This should be a sign to ask yourself the hard questions. Write them out - put pen to paper and get really honest with yourself.

  1. Do you have time to just be or are you constantly running around putting out fires, responding to emails, and doing it all for your business? I talk more about your business TIME SUCKERS in a previous blog post.

  2. Do you find yourself resenting tasks or only doing them part way?

  3. Are you feeling stuck and want to move your business forward?

  4. In a perfect world - what would your business look like? Feel like?

  5. Do you like how the last year in your business went?

Now that you’ve gotten really honest with yourself - let’s look at what hiring a consultant/coach can do for your business.

Outside perspective

When you are in your business it is hard to see the big picture and what could help move the needle forward to reach your goals. Much like a good editor can help when writing a book to point out plot holes or weird transitions, a business consultant can help bring clarity to your ideas, new ways to make your business run smoother, and even help to give you a better life/work balance. Being in your business prevents you from stepping back and making the tough decisions. It’s your baby - I totally get that, but continuing to be stuck in the day to day will not move your business forward.

Improve profitability

You want the customers. They are what makes your business a business. The question is are you pricing for profit or just to get customers in the door? Hiring a business consultant/coach can help to look at your business as a whole and see where you might be missing the mark and help to audit your pricing to give you a better base line of how to price and gain more money in your bank. This will help with growth, goals, and development.

Big goals

You’ve got big goals and you cannot lie, but sometimes to reach those goals it takes a plan, action, and accountability. Therein lies the genius of working with a consultant/coach. They will listen to your ideas, ask questions, and offer feedback. From there you will put together your goal list with a plan and actionable steps along the way. As you implement each step your consultant will be there to check in, cheer you on, and help redirect should things not fall in line as expected.

Could you keep doing things the way you have always done in your business? Absolutely, but likely it will leave you in the same place year after year. Finding the right person to hire can help you move the needle forward and level up your business. Believe me I totally get it. It is your business that you have grown and you know it better than anyone - but what if the right person could help you create a better business?

“It’s the little details that are vital. Little things make big things happen.”

-John Wooden

Making small changes in your business will allow for substantial changes as you grow or pivot. Deciding to invest in your business and hire a consultant/coach can offer a change in perspective and allow you to really step back and look at your business as a whole. I know when I decided to put my all into growing my business, hiring help felt scary. It was money to spend that I wasn’t currently making, but I needed someone to help me cross all the T’s and dot all the I’s as I put my all into making this a success.

Being an entrepreneur requires risks, trust in yourself, and taking action. What will you do this year to help you reach your business goals?
