5 Tips to try over buying ads on social media

Let’s talk about some hard truths - the follower count on your social media accounts doesn’t automatically equal money in your pocket.

I get it, we all want our businesses to be seen and our brands visible - but to be a successful business, you’ve got to be making that cold hard cash. There are better ways to get your business out there over buying ads or followers.

Because let’s face it, if your business is a brick and mortar or physically based in one place, getting views or followers from another place won’t equal more money. At the end of the day building connections with your customers/clients is what will bring sales.

I don’t know about your feed, but mine is flooded with ads from places that I can’t buy from or utilize, because they are based in other states. Sure the photos are fun to see and I love learning about new businesses, but the money they are spending to reach the right people is wasted. There is nothing wrong with wanting more followers, but you’ve got to find better ways to reach your target customers.

Avoid buying ads and try these instead:

  1. Use local hashtags - Did you know you can search instagram by hashtags like a search engine? I have found services I needed doing this very thing!

  2. When someone tags you - repost in your STORIES and make sure to tag them back! Be social - comment on their post and thank them. Have a conversation with them.

  3. High quality photos that others will want to share on their STORIES helps to spread brand awareness.

  4. Respond to Dms, comments, & questions. Make those connections.

  5. Find other businesses like yours in your area and comment on their pages - BE SOCIAL.

The above list is great for when you are focused on your social media. It is a great place to share parts of your business and to interact with your customers/clients. It should only be part of the strategy for building your business.

Ideas to build your brand beyond social media:

  1. WEBSITE!!! Even if you just start simple and build from there, it is a great way to connect with your customers/clients.

  2. Build an email list - it is a great way to connect with your customers/clients on the regular and give them heads up for new things, ideas, tips & tricks

  3. Create a google business page - you can

  4. Participate in local events

  5. Reach out to local publications about a write up - in print or up on a blog!

“You can’t buy engagement. You have to build engagement.” Tara Nicole Nielsen

I love this quote, because that is part of being a business - build it and they will come as the saying goes. The engagement. The connection. That is how you build sales. When you are just getting started you want to build that audience quickly, I totally get that, but if that audience isn’t buying those are just vanity metrics that won’t help to pay your bills.

Part of building a business is pivoting when you realize that maybe that initial idea wasn’t the right one or trying your next idea to test it out. Try some of the above and see if you can’t build a more well rounded, better for your business audience - who wants to engage and be a part of what you are creating.
